What the Width Measurement Means

The first number (e.g., "3 1/8"") is the width of the paper in inches. This is the measurement that must match your printer's paper compartment exactly. Too wide and the paper won't fit. Too narrow and it will feed crookedly or produce misaligned prints. To measure your current roll, simply measure across the width of the paper from edge to edge.

Standard Width Sizes and Who Uses Them

2 1/4" — Credit card terminals and mobile POS. Used by Verifone Vx520, Ingenico iCT250, Clover Mini and Flex, Square Terminal, PAX A920, and most handheld payment devices.

2 5/16" — Fuel dispensers only. Used exclusively by outdoor pump dispensers including Wayne Ovation, Gilbarco Encore, Tokheim Quantium, and Bennett BDI. Not used in any other POS application.
